South London Skateparks

West Sutton

IMG_4043_1000px

Collingwood Recreation Ground in West Sutton has a nice little concrete bowl, next to an area of rough tarmac with some old concrete and metal ramps (although the bowl is probably more fun). The bowl is a nice simple design with a shallow capsule shaped portion linked to a deeper and wider circular portion, with an extension.

Pollards Hill

IMG_4029_1000px

This skatepark at the Pollard’s Hill park between Mitcham and Norbury is quite large with several bit to appeal to different riders. It’s a largest square-ish layout with four holes of grass in the middle, creating track like sections. There are hipped quarter pipes in two corners, with a taco and bowled out corner with hip in the others. Between them is a large driveway/hip with rail and hubba ledges. Also pump bumps and ledges between the other corners. Also a curved ledge over a grass corner.

Wandle Park

IMG_4022_1000px

This skatepark is in the corner of Wandle Park, Croydon, just near the tram stop of the same name. The layout and size of transitions heavily favour BMX riders with hips and a spine ramp arranged to form a dirt jump style course almost. There is a smaller hip and manual pad with ledge that will suit skateboarders too though.

Clapham Common

DSCF0010

Clapham Common skatepark used to be a metal on tarmac affair, however it has recently been replaced with a mixture of concrete ramps on tarmac and a full resurfaced concrete section too. It has a huge variety of obstacles, most of which are very street influenced with several different shape and height ledges around the park. Also the usual mix of quarters and flat banks around the edges, also a concrete mini-ramp too.

South Norwood

This skatepark tucked behind the tennis and five aside courts in South Norwood Recreation Ground, is a nice collection of street style ledges. With a taco shaped quarter pipe at one end and a normal one the other end. A selection of ledges including a small pier 7 pad and small hubba ledge.

Purley

Not really that much to say about this skatepark in Rotary Field, as it’s simply a five foot metal mini ramp. In good condition considering it looks quite old.

Telegraph Hill

DSCF0004

This skatepark is a shining example of what can be achieved with an odd shape of land, wrapped around a football/basketball court in this case. With a concrete miniramp and small hip and bowl section at each end, connected by a strip with a long bank and a pair of ledges in a line.

Bromley

DSCF0838

This park is skatelite on tarmac split over two levels, on the lower level there is a wide mini ramp with extensions and roll-in. At the top is the street section, which is a fairly standard driveway with ledge and facing quarter pipes and banks. There are a number of rails and ledges around the edges. Also the large flatground area on the lower level looks ideal for training your flatground tricks.
